Belgooly NS was very fortunate to recently be awarded their first Active Flag. Alan Cadogan, corner forward for the Cork Hurlers was the school's special guest and he hoisted the flag to the delight of all the Children.
The school also received the Green Flag for water and Kevin Gould hoisted this flag!
June 26th was a very special day in Belgooly NS!

Many talented children auditioned for the show this year and all acts that performed on the day were fantastic! We had singing, dancing, music, soccer skills, drama, card and magic tricks.  Our youngest pupil Susie stole the show with her dancing - Well done to all!

Thanks to Leo and John from Centra in Riverstick who have provided fruit and water for the last few months to the children of Belgooly NS to highlight the importance of healthy eating!
The children were delighted and the initiative has encouraged them to eat more fruit!

Centra, Riverstick kindly provided fruit and water to every class for the first and last weeks of this drive.  Leo also supplied a different class with fruit every week in between (besides Easter holidays).

This initiative has been a great success and all pupils and staff have enjoyed the benefits of eating healthy fruit and drinking water.  When asked if they want to eat some fresh fruit now, the children always answer "We do!"

Sports for all day was a resounding success with every class participating in lots of fun activities.  Thank you to the PA for organising an ice-cream for everyone!

Treasures were bought and activities enjoyed at our recent Bring and Buy day.  There was a best dressed Teddy competition, nail painting and go-karting among lots of other exciting events.  Thank you to our sixth class pupils who helped to run this day.

With the appearance of the sun, some classes have enjoyed picnics and lunches outside!

Congratulations to Ryan Deasy who represented Cork and the school in the Primary Game in Páirc Uí Rinn. He played Tipperary at halftime of the Munster semi final. He really enjoyed the experience and loved being the guard of honour for the Senior team.  Well done Ryan.

Well done to all the children who competed in Cork City Sports this year. They had a great time and the staff and pupils are very proud of your performances!

Christmas Tree Essay Competition!

 Thank you to all involved in making our fundraising event "The Kube" the success that it was. The Parents’ Association is to be commended for their resourceful efforts in organising this fun event.  In complementing the completion of the extension, the installation of the most up-to-date ICT provision and the preservation and expansion of additional play area amenities, additional costs were incurred in the recent school extension project.  The proceeds of this fundraiser will assist with same. The school is most appreciative of everyone’s various forms of support over the past few weeks and well done to everyone involved, especially our thirty contestants who took on "The Kube."

 Pat Naughton is co-ordinating a music project entitled The Magic of Drumming this term for all classes. This creative process aims to: increase knowledge and experience of drumming as an art form;

offer a broad drumming experience in terms of improvisation, composition and performance;

focus on ‘music-in-the-moment’ and different rhythms;

promote drumming as a positive health strategy and to enhance social relationships, concentration levels and self motivation among other aims.   Here you can see fifth and sixth class enjoying their lesson.

Well done to our Sciath na Scol girls team who played well against Scartleigh in September.

Red and White Day

Our pupils wore red and white to support Cork Senior Ladies in the All Ireland Football Championship  Final on September 25th.  The Rebelettes beat Dublin in a close scoring game 1-7 to 1-6!

School Garden Update - September 2016

Have a look at our school garden pictures and see how much growth occured over the summer months!

Planting is ongoing in school garden at the moment.

The ladies in Ballymartle ICA planted some beautiful marigolds and begonias  as well as a blackcurrant bush in the fruit garden.

The herb garden is situated in tubs  in the sensory garden Ms. Murphy's 4th class planted parsley, thyme, oregano, sorrel, mint, dill and coriander. We hope to plant chives and lemon balm soon.

The rockery had to be dismantled due to the building of our 2 new classrooms. So we moved the beautiful bay tree next to the bug hotel, near the wildflower garden.

'1916 Proclamation Day Commemoration' on Tuesday, 15th March in the School Hall saw great excitement and celebration. Preparations for this unique historical celebration began earlier in the year and the pupils' musical, dance and literary presentations were most impressive. A Ceili Mor in the soccer court were a fitting finale! Well done to Mrs. Hickey (co-ordinator), Ms. Moynihan (Bean an Ti), Mr. Dinneen (musical director) and to all staff and pupils for ensuring such a memorable day.

New Defibrillator for the School

Through the successful advocacy of the Parents’ Association, BioMarin (a local Cork-based pharmaceutical company), has kindly donated a new defibrillator to the school.  A presentation was made by Mary O’Connor (BioMarin) to the school just prior to the Christmas holidays.  The school is grateful to BioMarin for its consideration and such a generous gesture and also to the Parents’ Association for its continuing efforts to add to the pupils’ school experience in so many areas.
